With its rich diversity of botanicals, production techniques, wide ranging ABVs and increasingly diverse USPs, the boutique gin movement continues to sweep the nation unabated. Have you ever wished you could create your own?
Would you like the opportunity to learn first hand from professional distillers on the art of capturing essences, taste profile, aromas and mouthfeel into a finished liquid?
Well, now you can thanks to Manchester Three Rivers Gin, Manchester city centre’s first ever dedicated gin distillery in modern times.
The competition however comes with a Boutique Bar Show twist! The first step is to identify a classic gin cocktail and then create the perfect signature gin for that drink.
Following an initial submission and selection process, five bartenders will be given the unique opportunity to get a true understanding of the complexities and considerations of creating their own gin this spring.

The Gin Challenge Process:
- Submit a classic gin cocktail using alongside a descriptive of the perfect gin flavour profile along with a shortlist of botanicals you think will be included within your recipe to achieve the correct flavour profile by no later than 11th April.
- Five Shortlisted bartenders will then be invited to two in-depth hands-on-distillery workshops on April 25th and May 2nd with the unique opportunity to gain practical experience and feedback on distilling, infusing and macerating botanicals from a professional and commercial gin distillery company.
- Each bartender will then present their gin as a stand alone product and showcased within the signature gin cocktail of their choice in front of a panel of judges at the Boutique Bar Show Manchester on May 10th.

Manchester Three Rivers will be giving a bottle of their super premium gin to each of the 5 finalists. Their company’s ethos is that of Industry, Creation, Innovation – matching that of the city. Manchester has such a diverse and talented on-trade culture and they are passionate about supporting that talent.
